Image via Wikipedia Did you know that World Breastfeeding Week was last week (1-7 August 2008)? Okay, so I'm a bit late in writing a blog in honor of it. But better late then never right? Well, for those that don't know, I've breastfed all my 3 children. My eldest was breastfed for about 15 months, my second son went a little past his 2nd birthday and my now 19 month old baby is still going strong. I was lucky as I didn't encounter much problem. And being blessed to stay at home, I could play the role of a live cow giving fresh milk on demand. My kids loved the idea of an "open bar."
Anyway, just thought I'd share a funny conversation I had with my son. As I heard the stirrings of my baby waking from his sleep, I commented:
Me: Ah, someone is looking for his drugs. (Afterall, there are signs of addiction - gives them comfort, satisfying, can't live without it, withdrawal symptoms if they can't get it).
Son: You cannot call your 'nen-nen' drugs mommy!
Me: Why not?
Son: Because drugs are rubbish and you throw them in the dustbin. If you call your 'nen-nen' drugs, then you have to throw them in the dustbin. How are you going to throw your 'nen-nen' in the dustbin?
Me: Okay, I shall not argue with the lawyer.
So, for your information, breastmilk is not a drug OKAY!!!
Mamas Parenting Tip
To ensure you are 100% successful in breastfeeding your baby:
- Imagine you don't have money to buy formula milk. Errr... for me I really didn't have money to buy formula milk. No need imagination. Hahahah.
- Become deaf to all the nonsensical stories you hear from older folks about how you don't have enough milk or you're starving your child or your milk is not nutritious enough blah, blah, blah.
- Get yourself educated on the matter.
- Never say die.
I had lots of problems so Never Say Die works for me. lol. Your conversation with your son is really cute. :)
ReplyDeleteyour son is so cute and entertaining...good job!...I breastfed my girl and boy for 7 months ond 8.5months respectively..i can't be sure if it is god blessed good health or what but my girl has never taken a single dose of antibiotics up till now..she is turning 4 in 2 weeks...so i do urge all mommies to breastfeed your bbs...it is worth it!

Salute you can bf for such long, I only manage to bf my gal about 12 mths. Due to late bm arrived on day 5 and introduce bottle too early, she refuse to latch on me. All the while just pump out and feed. Pump is such a hectic work and finally when she turn 1 year old I surrender and stop it.
ReplyDeleteAmen to what you say! What keeps me going is of course the money (I tell myself how much I can save on formula) and time (I hate to wash bottles, fix milk, sterilize bottles and bring a big bag out) and of course my Baby C's health (hopefully my milkie will keep another UTI at bay).

Thank you Lian for putting up this post on breastfeeding. It's my passion topic. Being a Chinese, a mother of twins and 2 more after that, i'm very proud to have breastfed all my 4 kids exclusively till 2 yrs (for my twins), 8 mths for my 3rd (cz I was pregnant with the 4th one whom breastfed til almost 2 yrs also).All mothers should breastfeed their bb. If I could do it, anyone else also can. Breastmilk is the best investment and asset I've given to all my kids!

That's right! Funny how the criticisms usually come from family members whereas the support come from strangers :) Did you experience that?
